All About Medical Microdermabrasion
Tired, dull, patchy skin? You’re not alone. Over time, dead skin cells build up on the surface, making your complexion appear rough and lackluster. While at-home exfoliation can help to a degree, medical microdermabrasion offers a more advanced and effective solution for refreshing your skin.
This popular, noninvasive treatment is a go-to option for our patients at Love Your Body Medical Spa in Las Vegas, Nevada. Dr. Divina Averilla can help improve your skin tone, texture, and overall radiance. If you’re considering a skin refresh, here’s everything you need to know about medical microdermabrasion.
A closer look at medical microdermabrasion
Medical microdermabrasion is a professional exfoliation treatment we use to remove the outermost layer of dead skin cells. Dr. Averilla uses a specialized device to gently resurface your skin.
Unlike over-the-counter scrubs or at-home devices, medical-grade microdermabrasion penetrates more deeply and delivers more noticeable results. It’s also uniquely designed to stimulate cell turnover, revealing fresher, healthier skin underneath.
We usually perform medical microdermabrasion on the face, but it can also be used on the neck, chest, and other areas where skin texture is a concern.
What microdermabrasion can do
Microdermabrasion is a versatile treatment that can address a wide range of common skin concerns. It’s especially effective for improving:
- Dull or uneven skin tone
- Rough or dry skin texture
- Mild acne scarring
- Fine lines and early signs of aging
- Enlarged or clogged pores
By removing dead skin cell buildup, microdermabrasion allows your skin to reflect light more evenly, giving it a smoother, more radiant appearance.
One of the key benefits of medical microdermabrasion is that it delivers immediate results with little to no downtime. After just one session, many of our patients notice that their skin feels smoother and looks brighter.
With regular treatments and a diligent skincare routine, skin tone and texture continue to improve. Microdermabrasion can also enhance the effectiveness of your skincare products, as they penetrate more easily into freshly exfoliated skin.
Want more good news? Because it’s gentle and noninvasive, this treatment is suitable for many skin types and can be incorporated into a long-term skincare routine.
A typical appointment
Medical microdermabrasion sessions with Dr. Averilla are quick and comfortable. We begin by cleansing your skin to remove any makeup or surface oils.
Next, we apply a chemical peel solution to slough off dull, dead skin cells. A dermabrader then gently exfoliates your skin.
Most describe the sensation as a mild scratching or vibrating feeling — noticeable but not painful. The entire treatment usually takes about 30 to 45 minutes.
Afterward, we apply a soothing moisturizer and sunscreen to protect your freshly exfoliated skin. Our patients love microdermabrasion because it requires minimal downtime. You may experience slight redness or sensitivity immediately after your appointment (similar to a mild sunburn), but this typically fades within a few hours.
You can return to your normal activities right away. However, it’s important to protect your skin with sunscreen and avoid harsh products for a day or two following treatment.
The simplest way to refresh your skin
Medical microdermabrasion is a safe, effective, and convenient way to revitalize your complexion.
