How is Radiesse® Different From Other Dermal Fillers?

Dermal fillers have developed into the go-to response for many people who are looking to restore volume, smooth out wrinkles, and refresh their appearance without surgery.

But not all fillers are created equally — and Radiesse® really stands out from the crowd.

This month, Divina Averilla, MD, and our team at Love Your Body Medical Spa in Las Vegas, Nevada, explore what makes Radiesse so special.

Let’s go back to the basics

Before diving into what sets Radiesse apart, it helps to know the basics of dermal fillers. We recommend these injectable treatments to:

Many fillers contain hyaluronic acid (HA), which occurs naturally in your skin and helps it stay hydrated and firm. Popular HA fillers include Juvéderm®, Restylane®, and Belotero®.

But Radiesse is in a category of its own.

The Radiesse difference

Radiesse isn’t an HA filler. Instead, it’s made of calcium hydroxylapatite (CaHA) microspheres, which are suspended in a smooth gel. Here’s what that means for you: CaHA is a biocompatible material that acts as a scaffold, stimulating your body to produce its own collagen over time.

This is one of the biggest reasons Radiesse is so distinct: It provides both instant volume and lasting skin rejuvenation.

With most dermal fillers, the results are immediate but fade as the product naturally breaks down in your body. Radiesse gives you that same immediate volume boost, but as the gel dissolves, the CaHA particles remain, encouraging your skin to produce more collagen.

Translation? Your results can last longer, and your skin’s texture and firmness may improve even after your body absorbs and processes the filler.

Radiesse is especially effective in areas that need structure and support. Some of the most common treatment areas include:

We can also inject fillers into the backs of the hands to restore volume and reduce the appearance of veins and tendons.

Because of its thicker consistency, we don’t typically recommend Radiesse for delicate areas like the lips or under-eye hollows. For those spots, HA fillers are still the go-to.

What to expect from Radiesse

Getting Radiesse is a quick, in-office procedure that typically takes less than 30 minutes. To keep you comfortable, we apply a topical numbing cream or use a version of Radiesse that’s pre-mixed with lidocaine.

You might experience some swelling, redness, or mild bruising afterward, but most people return to normal activities right away.

Radiesse results can last up to 18 months, depending on the treatment area, your lifestyle, and how quickly your body metabolizes the product. That’s a bit longer than most HA fillers, which usually last 6-12 months.

Also, because Radiesse stimulates collagen, many patients notice continued improvements in skin quality even after the filler has worn off.

Is Radiesse right for you?

Radiesse is a great option for people who are looking to:

However, it’s not ideal for everyone. If you’re looking to treat more delicate areas or want an easily reversible filler, an HA filler might be a better fit. That’s why a personalized consultation with our expert esthetician is so important. We can help you choose the right product for your situation.

Radiesse offers something unique in the world of dermal fillers: immediate results and long-term skin benefits. With its collagen-boosting power and ability to restore structure and volume, it’s an excellent choice for anyone who is looking to age gracefully, with a little help.
