How Dermal Fillers Restore Lost Facial Volume for a More Youthful Appearance

How Dermal Fillers Restore Lost Facial Volume for a More Youthful Appearance

In the past, you could get away with a bit of mascara and some blush (or maybe no makeup at all) and walk out the door looking like a cosmetics ad. Nowadays, wrinkles, sagging skin, and deflated features have you pulling out every trick in the book, or worse, considering surgery.

Dr. Divina Averilla at Love Your Body Medical Spa in Las Vegas, Nevada, wants you to know that you have more options than you realize. Dermal fillers have solidified their place at the top of the anti-aging treatment list, and for good reason.

Here’s a closer look at how they work and what you can expect.

Where did your facial volume go?

Facial volume loss happens partly because of the breakdown of proteins in your skin, namely collagen and elastin. Over the years, you lose the collagen and elastin already present in your skin’s structure, and your body stops producing them as efficiently as it once did.

Without these all-important proteins, your skin loses its built-in support system and starts to sag, wrinkle, hollow, and look withered.

Some other factors that contribute to facial volume loss include:

Fortunately, no matter which factor or factors have caused your face to lose its youthful contours, dermal fillers can save the day.

The 411 on dermal fillers

As the name suggests, dermal fillers fill in the areas of your face that have sunken in and lost their volume — how they do it is where the real magic lies.

At Love Your Body Medical Spa, we offer Juvéderm® fillers, which are hyaluronic acid-based fillers. Each product in the Juvéderm family features a different bonding and concentration of hyaluronic acid, allowing us to tailor your treatment and target specific problems. The most popular types of Juvéderm fillers include:

Hyaluronic acid is the active ingredient that, when injected, stimulates the production of collagen and helps your skin hold on to moisture. This effectively plumps your skin and reduces the signs of aging.

What to expect

One of the things we love most about Juvéderm fillers is that they pack a powerful anti-aging punch without us ever creating an incision. Because Juvéderm is minimally invasive, there’s not much you have to do to prepare. In fact, we can often perform the injections on the same day as your consultation.

We do recommend that if you plan to get Juvéderm, you should temporarily avoid certain medications and stop smoking, and consuming alcohol, as they can all contribute to bruising after your injection.

During your procedure, we map out the treatment area with a pen before carefully injecting Juvéderm. We gently massage your face to ensure even distribution and reduce the chance of swelling.

From start to finish, you can expect the process to take anywhere from 15-60 minutes. The length of your session depends on the area being treated.

Juvéderm injections also contain a small amount of lidocaine, a pain-reducing medication, so you shouldn’t feel any discomfort during your appointment.

Once you’re done, you can expect to see results right away. The best results develop over the following days and weeks as redness, bruising, and swelling go down. You can enjoy your new lease on youth for 6-24 months, depending on which product we use.

You can come back for touch-up appointments as desired and maximize your anti-aging action plan by getting Botox® injectionsfacials, and other services in conjunction with dermal fillers.

If you’re ready to reclaim your youth, don’t hesitate to make an appointment with us. We have the complete lineup of services you need to get healthier, younger-looking skin from the inside out.
